Announcements

Lynn Chapman wanted to thank everyone for the cards and well-wishes received by our group on the recent passing of her husband. She also wanted to let everyone know that she is getting through the darkness and is doing fine.

Discussion

Ellen Shaw heard School Board Trustee Ellen Minetto call herself a Conservative Republican at a recent School Board meeting. Ellen Shaw decided to create a little unofficial petition to be signed by as many of us as want to sign it to let Ellen know she is not a Conservative Republican if she keeps voting against Trustee Jeff Church. Ellen passed around the petition and received MANY signatures.

NvFRW Team – At a recent meeting in Las Vegas, four ladies ran for office with the Nevada State Federation of Republican Women. The entire team won election as officers of NvFRW:

NvFRW President – Caroline Smith

NvFRW Vice-President – Nicol Herri

NvFRW Secretary – Kathy Doyle

NvFRW Treasurer – Barbara Kirk

Congratulations to the Team and we wish you every success!

Mark Leonard – Interim Chair of the Washoe County Republican Central Committee, talked about organizing the County Party to get people engaged. His goals include Getting Out The Vote (GOTV) and getting more Republicans registered to vote. The County is divided 1/3 Republicans, 1/3 Dems and 1/3 non-partisans or some other party, many of whom are disenfranchised from both major parties, whom we need to explain our mission. Another goal is to stop this “state of emergency” for the last 594 days, which is shutting down our rights. Other goals include educational choice and fundraising.

Melissa Clement – is seeking to be appointed to the Senate seat vacated by Ben Kieckhefer. It would be to fill that seat for the remainder of the term, until November, 2022.  Our whole country is at a fork in the road. Federal funds should not come with strings attached (like mandatory vaccines).  With the current composition of the Legislature, Dems are in the majority and we can’t do much. But Melissa wants to give Republicans a reason to go down swinging and not give up to compromise so easily.

Melissa is an experienced lobbyist and knows the ropes in Carson City; she would hit the floor running from Day 1. The Washoe County Commission and the Carson City Mayor helped decide the appointee to this seat. Please write the WC Commissioners (especially Bob Lucey, who is the Chair and wields control over the others) and Carson City Mayor Lori Bagwell, urging a vote for Melissa Clement to fill that Senate seat.  https://www.washoecounty.gov/bcc/profile/index.php

Chair Bob Lucey                      blucey@washoecounty.us

Vice-Chair Vaughn Hartung     vhartung@washoecounty.us

Kitty Jung                                 kjung@washoecounty.us

Alexis Hill                                 ahill@washoecounty.us

Jeanne Herman                       jherman@washoecounty.us

Mayor Lori Bagwell                   LBagwell@carson.org

Valerie White – we need to find someone to run against Sheriff Darin Balaam. Balaam consider Sheriff Richard Mack (a Constitutional Sheriff) too political. Is defending the Constitution too political?

Nicol Herris – Republican Women of Reno (RWR) sponsored an event last Spring featuring Sheriff Mack. All law enforcement sheriffs & deputies were invited to attend for free and lots of rural sheriffs/deputies attended.  But not a one of 345 deputies from Washoe attended.

Cindy Martinez – Health Department meeting Thursday, Oct  28 (tomorrow). Please show up and speak out against the continuing state of emergency for nearly 20 months. The Federal COVID train that rolls through the City is millions of dollars and while we are in a state of emergency, that train keeps rolling. The County Commission usually puts those dollars on a Consent Agenda (to be passed without discussion) and we have no say about it. Please also attend the next County Commission meeting on Nov 9 (10am, 1001 E. 9th St, Bldg A) to speak in Public Comment and ask for discussion on each of the Consent Agenda items, forcing them to discuss it rather than simply pass it.

Janet Butcher is in charge of the distribution list of upcoming County Commission, School Board and Health Dept meetings. If you want to be on that distribution list, please contact Janet, jbutcher400@charter.net.

Cindy talked about Dr Rica Danko who is an appointee doing a COVID presentation at the next Health Dept meeting and is part of the 2021 Health Improvement Plan.  Mostly, we should keep our immune systems strong.  Kevin Dick, who is the head of the Health Dept (appointed by the County Commission, with no medical background whatsoever).

Juanita Cox – Sheriff of Clark County Joe Lombardo, running for Governor, came into the campaign with $7M. How does a Sheriff amass that?  Also, he was a former Dem and shut down the October 1, 2017 massacre without much of an investigation. And he’s a good friend of Sisolak. At best, he’s a wolf in RINO clothing. At worst, he’s trying to infiltrate the Republican Party.

Next Meeting – Wednesday, November 10 – one and only meeting in November, due to holidays.
