Discussion

“CTL News” video presentation. This is a Power Point presentation that Carole does once monthly. She researches various videos that have political impact that most of us don’t see on the mainstream media. The actual Power Point presentation is not included herein, but all the panels used in the Power Point are here for your viewing at your leisure, in the comfort of your home. This is for your entertainment as well as education.

Nicholas St Jon – Washoe Patriots meets every Wednesday evening, 6:30pm, Coconuts, 170 S. Virginia.  This week we will discuss how to build a little mini greenhouse in your backyard tonight. Nicholas gave some examples of humor about the country right now, which would have been funnier if they weren’t so true.  “You live in a taxed farm as a free-range human.” Other pieces of humor: “The economy is so bad under Joe Biden, CEOs are now playing miniature golf… A picture is worth only about 200 words now.

Tracey Hilton-Thomas – Candidate for County Commission, District 4, which is Sparks east of McCarran, all the way down to Hidden Valley and another piece west of McCarran, specifics of which this reporter did not capture. Please go to Tracey’s website and read her goals, ambitions and qualifications for the position now occupied by appointee (by Gov Lombardo) Clara Andriola. Clara has voted with the Dem majority 87% of the time.  www.tracey4washoe.com.

Jeff Church – the only conservative on the Washoe County School Board. He has been accused of sexual harassment by 2 WCSD employees. He has sued WCSD for records pertaining to this. His hearing is Jan 3 at 10AM, open to the public at the courthouse downtown with Judge Drakulich. He was called in for a meeting, ambushed with the sexual harassment accusation and was asked to sign a document, which he declined. He asked for a video, as the incident was supposed to have taken place in a school parking lot and there would be a video. This was also declined. But Jeff found and used NRS 239, which allows for documentation/video to be granted and given to the accused. The video shows Jeff is nowhere on the scene – nor any other males – with the 2 employees in the parking lot. There will be 4 openings on the School Board. Jeff has not ruled out running again in 2024.

We also need to take back the rurals. Mineral County has 5% of the students with math proficiency. Same with Pershing County. Enrollment is down from the peak of 65K, down to 60K. Probably losing $70M/yr from the loss of enrollment to charter and private schools. NV State Dept of Ed (NSDE), which mandates to the Counties what they have to do. NSDE meetings make Washoe look conservative.

Jeff’s websites are now updated:  https://watchdogjeff.com and https://renotaxrevolt.com. There is info on both about the Stormwater Utility Fee, which is haunting Reno citizens right now. It is an unnecessary and horribly over-inflated fee for the supposed use to prevent flooding. We already pay a portion of our taxes for flood prevention. Additionally, the City collects a sewer tax quarterly from Reno residents. Within their proposal, pedestrian bridges will be rebuilt, even though pedestrian bridges are under the purview of RTC, not the City. This utility “fee” is already being litigated as it is a tax, not a fee and it is suspected that more litigation will follow if it passes in the City Council.

Primary vs Caucus – Much has been cussed and discussed about this controversial issue. The Democrat-majority in our State Legislature passed the Primary ruling, which is to take place on Feb 6. They wanted this as the State runs (and pays for) a Primary, whereas the 2 major political Parties run and pay for a Caucus. And the Dems had difficulty organizing their Caucus. The Caucus will take place on Feb 8, just 2 days later.

Major points to consider about the Primary on Feb 6:

o   Trump’s name will NOT appear on the Primary ballot.

o   You will NOT be able to write in anyone on the Primary ballot.

o   Same day registration (as election day).

o   Mail-in ballots to EVERYone.

o   There is a concern that Dems will re-register as Rs and vote in the Primary.

o   There is no mechanism to determine County, State or National delegates to those Conventions in the Primary.

o   The ballot will be sent out several weeks in advance, so you can vote early if you wish.

o   The Primary is where your voting record is calculated. If you’ve never missed an election and don’t show up for the Primary, you will be reported as missing an election.

Major points to consider about the Caucus on Feb 8:

o   You may vote for Trump if you choose. Not all candidates have filed (and paid) to have their name on the NV ballot.

o   You will NOT be able to write in anyone on the Caucus ballot.

o   This is only a Republican Caucus and only registered Republicans can participate. *

o   This is the ONLY mechanism if you wish to be a delegate to the County Convention, wherein delegates to the State Convention are elected and National delegates are ONLY elected from the State Convention. But it all starts at the Caucus. If you don’t attend the Caucus, you cannot be a County Convention delegate, and so on.

o   No early voting; it’s the day of the Caucus only.

o   Paper ballots that are hand-counted.

o   New rule this year… if you absolutely cannot attend on Caucus day, there is a system in place where a ballot can be mailed to you and you can mail it back.

*  Please check your registration with the Registrar’s office and make certain you have not been dumped into the nonpartisan category by the DMV. They tend to like to do that. You can go to https://washoecounty.gov/voters/register_to_vote/check-my-registration.php. You will need to know your last name and birthdate.

Please go to https://www.washoegop.org/elections2024 and learn a lot more than I’ve briefly shared herein.

Carole’s Recommendation:  Participate in BOTH the Primary and the Caucus. I am not about to “give up” any opportunity I can to vote my opinion. In the Primary, you can vote early so it doesn’t feel like it’s back-to-back with the Caucus.  You will also be able to choose NONE OF THE ABOVE candidates if you don’t like any of the choices. You don’t have to click on someone you don’t like if your favorite is not on the list. If you like Trump, definitely choose NONE OF THE ABOVE, as he will not be on the Primary ticket. If you like Trump, it’s especially important to choose NONE OF THE ABOVE at the Primary, and then go to the Caucus where you will be able to vote for Trump. If you don’t like Trump, vote for someone else at either.

Next Meeting – Wednesday, January 10, same time, same place. Carole will be out of town and Nicôl Herris will run the meeting.

Please enjoy a beautiful Holiday Season and pray for a

New Year of good health and better times for our country and the world.
