Marc Radow – Battle Born Fotbol Club (BBFC) – working on creating a professional fotbol team with a complex of soccer fields right here in Reno. A professional soccer team here would create a culture, something that would bring families together, teach kids teamwork, give them direction to meet goals, to be a good sport, etc. He has the funding; what he needs is public support, letting the Planning Commission know you support the Battle Born Fotbol Club complex project. He is deliberately not using land the city has offered him, because that could have strings attached (strings that would likely make it mandatory to have boys on girls’ teams, etc).
ACTION ALERT!!! Please write or call the Planning Commission, renoplanningcommission@reno.gov. Must do immediately, as the Planning Commission is meeting next Wednesday (March 15) to discuss. SEE ATTACHED FLYER on this exciting project. This is truly a bright spot in our otherwise often grim news.
Jeff Church – Did you know a 14-yr old girl was murdered (stabbed) by another 14 yr old girl in Reno near North Valleys HS? Did you know there are approximately 4 assaults per month on staff? Jeff did not know about the murder until he read it in the paper and he is on the School Board.
ACTION ALERT!!! March 14 – Very IMPORTANT School Board meeting, 2:00pm, 425 E. 9th St. to discuss violence in the schools. We need folks to show up and speak out or email about the horrors that violence in the schools has done to the respect and reputation of our school system.
Tonight (Wednesday), at 7pm, AACT Academy on Edison facility, community forum on all things pertaining to WCSD.
Yesterday was supposed to be a meeting about Safety in the Schools and it was changed twice and then canceled and Jeff was never told.
Legislative Update – Lynn Chapman
e-Alerts are sent out nearly daily, bringing us up-to-date on bills coming up for hearing or vote. Janine Hansen does an amazing job, giving a synopsis of the bill, who is on the Committee and who to write or call with your comments. If you wish to get the e-alerts, please write and ask to be added. director@nevadafamilies.org.
SB131 – bill was heard with no vote because of the # of folks who wrote in and didn’t like it.
AB175 – appoints rather than elects school board members in only Clark and Washoe. Hearing Thurs, Mar 9, 1:30pm.
AB179 – To establish a Perinatal Quality Control Board filled with bureaucrats who will hold meetings in private, with no public allowed. Their mission is to try to reduce infant mortality and trying to figure out why women of ethnic and racial minorities have worse birth outcomes. HEARING CANCELED.
AJR3 – Nevada’s version of the New Green Deal and will change our State Constitution.
SB12 – changing the language in the City Charter to make it gender-neutral.
SB68 – increases real property transfer tax. The Pro side was given all kinds of time and when it came time for the Con side, the Comm Chair said, “Just say ditto. We don’t have a lot of time here.”
SB142 – “Homeless Bill of Rights” has been significantly amended to remove the really bad parts. Now it basically just says the homeless should be respected. Your emails made the difference.
SB155 – prohibits counties and cities from enforcing their laws regarding health and safety that would affect the homeless (now called “unhoused”). HEARING CANCELLED.
SB172 – removes parental consent to allow a minor to receive a contraceptive device or drug.
Call or write in your opinions. Opinions matter; they count. They help the Legislators see what the public sentiment is. Don’t discount your opinion!
ACTION ALERT!!! Here’s how to SUBMIT YOUR OPINION in 5 easy steps:
- Go to www.leg.state.nv.us -> blue toolbar across the top, click on NELIS
- Click on the top toolbar LEGISLATION -> just below that tab, see ALL BILLS & RESOLUTIONS
- Type in the bill # (no space between AB or SB and the #)
- Scroll down -> click on the bill and you will find Overview, (full) Text, and so forth
- Scroll down to the very bottom, where you can leave Public Opinions and share yours.
Coming to Reno soon!!!
Storm Water tax – going to be imposed on all current residents of Reno, to build
the sewer infrastructure for any new housing in the area. The City Council will
vote on this in secret, without a public hearing. The City Council needs to hear
from us. Write City Council: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScj6SU2NcVRme7TCQ1SvA37RBgojhtHfxc5ANNNSqTm6CCx0Q/viewform?c=0&w=1
John Eppolito – SB165 – want to put teachers/educators on a new Committee, to watch Big Tech, who is watching us. Once our student data is on the Block Chain, it can never be removed. Samantha Stone (took over for Dan Mason on KKOH, afternoon drive) is all over this as well. Protect Nevada’s Children will be neutral on this. This is nationwide and people (both Rs and Ds) are starting to see what John has been preaching about for years, about data collection and protecting our private info.
Jill Dickman & Edgar Flores will have a bill that will protect a student’s/person’s private info/data.
Nicholas St Jon – Washoe Patriots – We need to use cash as much as possible.
Roger Hillygus is a local fellow whose mother was in a nursing home, where she was being abused. He went and forcibly took her out of the facility and put in her in her brother’s house in CA. The rest home people got a judge’s order to raid the mother’s brother’s house and take the mother out by force. SWAT team raided the house and Roger is now in jail. Roger’s health is declining and he is being treated badly.
Stewart Handte, former Deputy Sheriff for 30 years, tried to help Roger. Stewart has now lost his law enforcement job, was in jail for 90 days, is forced to wear an ankle monitor, where his health is also declining rapidly.
ACTION ALERT!!! The hearing will be held in District Court 8 (75 Court St, just west of Virginia), next Wed, March 15, 1:00pm. Please support Roger and Stewart.
Next Washoe Patriots group is Sat, Mar 18, 12:30pm, at the Spirit Filled Church, 3175 Goldy Way in Sparks (McCarran & Baring area). They will be talking about Biodomes (10’ x 16’ dome) where you can grow your own fruit and veggies and wood gas fires from wood chips for fuel.
Nicholas has been talking to Jenny Luthy and Ron Miranda (Washoe GOP Precinct/Field Ops) are getting no support from the Washoe GOP. Washoe Patriots is helping them with the street corner operation concept (standing on street corners with signs for candidates and Voter Reg cards). They have talked about ballot harvesting and we know there were a lot of ballots left on the table last election. They will be able to track those who voted and the method by which they voted (Early Voting in person, mail-in, day of, etc).
Bruce Foster – Library Board meeting next Wednesday, March 15, 4-6:00m, Spanish Springs Library to discuss the Drag Queen Story Hour. DQSH is funded by Friends of the Library (a 501c3), so we can’t de-fund it, but it is held in a public tax-payer-owned facility. The minimum we can expect is to be able to move it to another facility that isn’t public.
ACTION ALERT!!! Please contact the Library Board and let them know your displeasure with Drag Queen Story Hour being held in a public, taxpayer facility. To contact all members of the Library Board, email LibraryBoard@washoecounty.gov.
Next Meeting: Wednesday, March 22, 2023, same time, same place.
